Weld County Fair Board Minutes

June 3, 2024

Meeting called to order by President Aaron Helus at 6:00 p.m.

Members Present: Aaron Helus, Isaia Aricayos, Landon Cogburn, Bailey Naibauer (via Zoom), Tom Bledsoe and Levi Loveland

Ex-Officio/Staff Present: Hannah Swanbom, Larry Hooker, Cheryl Aragon, Mikayla Gabel and Kim Eastwood

Special Guests: Commissioner Perry Buck (via Zoom)

Agenda: None

Motion to approve the Consent Agenda by Tom Bledsoe, second by Isaia Aricayos; motion passed.

Special Guests/Requests:

  1. Commissioner Buck - encouraging the board to continue the great work

  2. Royalty update – presented by Attendant Madison Angelee Miller – busy with activities last month, June will be busy with Stampede, Friday Fest and Grover Parade among a list of activities

Old Business:

  1. Show Barn Flix – no sponsor secured for Flix for this year, will begin working to secure a sponsor for next year now
  2. Working Budget – updated and presented to the board

  3. Fair Coordinator Update – $94k committed in kind and monetary donations received to date – exceeding goal of $75k, security meeting with City coming up 6/13, printed fair books sent to families already, Stampede parade for Fair and tractor pull, Fair board meetings will begin Monday during Fair week, next meeting for July will be in Eaton due to no available rooms because of Stampede, vendors for truck pull getting lined up, award donors coming in for truck pull

New Business:

  1. Truck Pull – need to determine ticket fees, MOTION: Option #1 charge $10 gate fee for adults by Tom Bledsoe, second by Levi Loveland; motion passed. Kids 5 and under would be free.

  2.  Royalty Commitment Review – not received before meeting this evening, will be presentednext month
  3. Committee Reports (Board representation assignments drawn from hat annually)
    • Premier Exhibitor – Landon Cogburn – Committee – meeting last month, almost fully sponsored at this time, swine, dairy and sheep short at this time, still working on sponsors, another meeting scheduled for next week
    •  Carcass Contest – Isaia Aricayos – Kristy Campbell – will confirm with Kristy on ultra sound set up
    • All-Around Showmanship – Aaron Helus – Debbie Carpio – set up will be all Fair Board members available and any else willing to help that morning
    •  Drug Testing – Courtney Smith – Lynn Erickson – nothing new at this time
    • Education – Tom Bledsoe – Toni – contract signed and returned by CSU
    • Jr Livestock Sale – Landon Cogburn – Board – reminder invites sent to buyers, making trifolds at this time
    • Security, Parking, and Risk Management – Levi Loveland – chair vacant – need schedule and map for City, waiting for contract for carts, All Seasons will provide security, received bid for Truck Pull security and sent to NSPA
    •  Royalty – Tom Bledsoe – pending commitment updates to be approved, next meeting will be on Thursday this week
    • Livestock/Animal Health – Bailey Naibauer – Kristy Campbell – no meeting last month

Announcements/ General Discussion:

  1. Next Meetings July 8th at 6:00 p.m., McCarthy's
  2. Office hours change due to Stampede in late June and early July
