Weld County Fair Board Minutes

December 2, 2024


The Meeting was called to order by President Aaron Helus at 6:00 p.m.

Members Present: Those present were President Aaron Helus, Secretary Isaia Aricayos, Treasurer Courtney Smith, and Board Members Bailey Naibauer, Levi Loveland, and Tom Bledsoe.

Ex-Officio/Staff Present: Mikayla Gabel, Kim Eastwood, Larry Hooker

Special Guests: Committee Members Katrina Loveland, Kylie Kayser

Agenda: No changes

Motion to approve the consent Agenda by Tom Bledsoe, second by Isaia Aricayos; motion passed.

Special Guests/Requests:

  1. Royalty Court –Attendant Dakota Bernard -- CAFS participation in Novembers, Dakota attended National Dairy Judging contest in Kentucky, received new sponsors Greeley Hat Works and Mama Bear and Craft Cubs.

Old Business:

  1. Budget Work Session -- 2025 Budget proposed and submitted for review, Motion by Courtney Smith to approve budget as submitted, second by Levi Loveland; motion passed.  
  2. Committee SOPs -- Motion to approve Royalty, Sale, and Junior Livestock Animal Health SOP's as submitted and read by Tom Bledsoe, second by Levi Loveland; motion passed.
  3. Working Budget -- Motion to approve $19,417.25 for panels and pens by Tom Bledsoe, second by Levi Loveland; motion passed. The amount is the remaining balance for equipment, panels and pens for this year. 

New Business:

  1. Committee Application -- Drug Testing -- Motion to approve applicant Stacy Patton as recommended by the committee by Tom Bledsoe, second by Bailey Naibauer; motion passed. 
  2. Committee Application -- Sale Committee -- Motion to approve Steve Steinkamp as recommended by the committee by Tom Bledsoe, second by Bailey Naibauer; motion passed.
  3. Fair Book Honors -- Friend of the Fair recommendation Gordon Ledall, Motion by Tom Bledsoe to accept recommendation, second by Bailey Naibauer; motion passed. Fair Book Dedication recommendation George Maxey, Motion by Tom Bledsoe to accept recommendation, second by Bailey Naibauer; motion passed. 
  4. Committee Reports (Board representation assignments drawn from hat annually)
  • Premier Exhibitor – Aaron Helus – nothing new to report at this time. 
  • Carcass Contest – Levi Loveland – nothing new to report at this time. 
  • All Around Showmanship – Isaia Aricayos – nothing new to report at this time. 
  • Drug Testing – Courtney Smith – recommend small animal testing this year, poultry and rabbits total 14 samples, current SOPs for large animals and will have an edit, they will work on SOP for small animals. Motion to add small animals- poultry and rabbits- to drug testing program by Courtney Smith, second by Tom Bledsoe; motion passed. Committee recommends officer slate, Motion to approve officers as recommended by committee by Tom Bledsoe, second by Courtney Smith, motion passed. 
  • Jr. Livestock Sale – Landon Cogburn – working on backdrop still and purchased iPad for payment at sale. 
  • Security, Parking, and Risk Management – Landon Cogburn – meeting set up for next week Monday, December 9.
  • Royalty – Tom Bledsoe – at last meeting a design and measurement was presented by a committee for chaps and parents were told a deposit of $700 was needed that evening, it was communicated that the committee will hold off on proceeding at this time; feedback was not received well by committee member, discussion of committee operating smoothly and appropriately, Motion to remove the committee member from the Royalty Committee effective immediately by Levi Loveland, second by Bailey Naibauer; motion passed. 
  • Livestock Animal Health – Bailey Naibauer – looking for sponsor for scale, rabbit table purchase will be out of equipment budget, contact with judges and contracts still pending.

Announcements/ General Discussion:

  1. Next Meeting Monday, January 7, 2025 @ 6:00 p.m.
  2. Director position posting still pending and will be open soon and remain until the end of December, interviews will likely by at the beginning of February.
